Description

The non-profit association Traditionsschiffe Eckernförde e.V. was founded in spring 2018. The purpose of the association is to promote the technical culture of traditional ships and shipbuilding in the townscape of Eckernförde. Eckernförde in particular can look back on an important history as a port town. Since the Middle Ages, a lively merchant fleet developed, which was also active in international trade. At the same time, wooden shipyards shaped the townscape. Over the course of time, Eckernförde played an important role in the fishing industry, with over 100 fishing boats and a large number of fish smokehouses for processing the famous "Kiel sprats" in its heyday. This past can be particularly effectively linked to historically valuable traditional ships based in Eckernförde.
