Navigation
The harbour is unlit and should only be approached by those familiar with the area after dark. Coming from the east, keep the beacons in line at 254° until the Viten North light takes bearing. Then head for the eastern pier tip of the harbor, bearing 245°. Note that after passing the lighted beacon just north of the course line, it becomes very shallow. Coming in from the west is easier, the passage is narrow but over 2m deep. Just keep close to Vinga as there is a shallow of 1.5m on the Koholmen side (see sea chart).
Berths
You moor in the western harbour basin or at the landing stage to the west of it (water depth 2 - 2.5 m). There are moorings, own stern anchors are unsuitable. The outside of the eastern pier is used by island suppliers, but can be occupied exceptionally. Weather protection is good except in easterly winds. The eastern harbor basin is reserved for pilot boats. There is usually only a weak current in the harbour.
Surroundings
Vinga is Sweden's best-known lighthouse, the first having been built here in the early 17th century. Since that time, the island has also been a station for Gothenburg's pilots, who also help with sea emergencies and ambulance transport. The lighthouse and island, where the Swedish national poet Evert Taube lived as a child, are well worth a visit. The museum is open daily in the summer. Vinga is also a great nature reserve : maximum stay - three days. Vinga's rocks are alkaline, a good condition for an unusual, rich flora.
