NV Land Guide
On the large, barren harbour apron of this facility are a few wooden huts - nothing more. The moorings are located east of Neder Dråby, which has grown together with the village of Jægerspris to the west. If you like it, you can have a look around in the very touristy shopping street, two kilometres west of the harbour, where waffle bakeries, ice-cream cafés, hot-dog stands and fashion shops vie for the favour of holidaymakers. Plenty of nature with extensive forests invites you to go for a walk or even a hike in the direction of Frederikssund.
If you have already walked to the centre of the double village, you should walk another 700 metres along the main road to Jægerspris Castle, which was the scene of a tragic event in 1318: when Queen Ingeborg had an accident with her horse-drawn carriage on the estate, her only son died. A second time Jægerspris came to the attention of the whole of Denmark when King Frederik lived here and flouted etiquette by marrying the fashion merchant Louise Rasmusen. To avoid the accusation that his marriage was not befitting his station, he ennobled her as Countess Danner. She inherited the castle and bequeathed it to a foundation for single mothers.
Visitors to the three-winged complex have access to the memorial rooms of Frederik VII. (1808-63) and the Countess (1815-74). Other rooms house travelling exhibitions, and there are 54 monuments to well-known Scandinavians in the castle park.
At Færgelundsvej 1 in Jægerspris, the regional museum Færgegården displays cultural history from the region. Among the best-known exhibits are unique hand-sign stones from a Bronze Age cult house. The road to the church, two kilometres south of the village, leads past the windmill at Jægerspris. Among the sights in the church is an altarpiece with noble coats of arms from around 1630.
