NV Land Guide
Fishing boats dominate the picture in the cosy harbour of the village, which, however, is increasingly developing from a fishing to a holiday resort. Like Albuen, Langø was a trading centre of some importance in the Middle Ages because of the rich herring fishing grounds. Today, the eel has overtaken the herring, which is caught in huge nets. The large nets require appropriate equipment for cleaning the fishing gear: this is done, for example, in Vesteroddevej on poles anchored in the ground about five metres high. The viewer is presented with a beautiful picture when the large nets are pulled up on the poles. Vesteroddevej leads past an attractive little church to the headland facing Albuen.
A holiday home area has sprung up on the outskirts of the village. The surrounding flat landscape is characterised by fruit growing, sugar beet and grain fields.
A good destination for an excursion is "Peter Hansen's Have", a private garden a good five kilometres to the south. The 600-square-metre area with thousands of different plants can be visited at Vesternæsvej 56 in Kappel. Rhododendrons, alpine plants, a rock garden with a waterfall, various water plants on a large pond and many types of roses can be seen here. Also worth seeing is the restored Bockmühle of Kappel. It was built on a site where a chapel stood over a sacred spring in the Middle Ages.
