Description

Butrint (National Park - UNESCO World Heritage Site) has been inhabited since prehistoric times and was a Greek colony, a Roman city and bishopric, under Byzantine administration during the reign of Ali Pasha.

Then it came under Venetian occupation for a short time. In the late Middle Ages, the city was abandoned and the region became marshy. Today one can find  ruins representing every period in the city's development.
